ABSTRACT

Consequently, we must organize our classroom and create a harbor of academic coolness that lures kids in with its siren’s song and seduces them to learn.

The Breakdown of a Middle School Classroom Many civilians are shocked to learn that that in August, when a teacher

returns to his or her classroom, they are often greeted with a pile of furniture, poltergeist-style, stacked in the middle of the classroom from floor to ceiling. The carpets may have been vacuumed, true, but the classroom is far from ready to receive students. The walls are bare. In fact, many principals insist prior to summer vacation that the teacher strip the walls of all borders and backgrounds, not to mention student work or posters.
