ABSTRACT
First of all, research about what works or doesn’t work in schools rarely involves a control group. We don’t lock half of the third graders in a closet while we teach the other half, then bring them out and compare the results. The reality is much more complex than that. It is very difficult to isolate one variable or draw clear conclusions about cause and effect.
