ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the case of the Most Admired Knowledge City Award (MAKCi) consultation exercise, which aims to bring a practical application of a purpose-built framework (CS) for city benchmarking purposes. It stems from recent research on knowledge city index pursuits, built on data available on urban communities. The chapter presents the knowledge value-creation assumptions to identify city benchmarking potential and uses in the MAKCi consultation exercise as a practical example of value-based indicator construction. It aims to reflect on how knowledge-intensive networks at the global scale foster tacit knowledge conversion by exploring consensus patterns and benchmarking of knowledge city trends. The data analysis presented aims to highlight the possibilities of eight knowledge capital dimensions that stand as indicators for the MAKCi exercise insofar visible drivers of collective capital creation in knowledge-based development of city-regions. The chapter aims to feature an integral account of value elements, both tangible and intangible, within the city.
