ABSTRACT

Access to education is a fundamental human right guaranteed by the Constitution of the Russian Federation (art. 43). Russia has signed the UN Convention on the Protection of Children, which includes articles on the provision of education for children of different groups. Nevertheless, various barriers exist to education in the North Caucasus in one form or another. The growing social differentiation has affected primarily the opportunities of the new generation in the form of unequal access to education, including sport, music and other extra curricular activities that were well developed in the Soviet period and affordable for every family irrespective of income.
