ABSTRACT

The present chapter examines the disciplinary underpinnings of multidisciplinary working in special education and looks at some implications. I consider the scope of the application of medical perspectives, neuropsychology, psychotherapy, developmental psychology, psycholinguistics (and speech and language therapy), technology and pedagogy. The roles of the various professionals associated with such disciplines are considered. I look at examples of professional roles and working specifically for the speech pathologist, physical therapist/physiotherapist, school/ educational psychologist, occupational therapist, psychotherapist and school social worker.
