ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts of key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book describes the linguistic categories that author used and to relate them to sociological and psychological categories. The author were much less concerned about describing the rules for correct English usage and showing in great detail where children depart from these rules either as a result of linguistic immaturity or of exposure to non-standard dialects. It is thought that ultimately functional categories will provide the best bridge between linguistic categories on the one hand and sociological and psychological ones on the other. That linguistic analysis we have described in this monograph was first performed on a sample of 110 subjects. Preliminary results obtained on this sample indicated a number of areas which were worthy of further attention. These areas were particularly associated with the nominal group, verbal group and adjunctival group.
