ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a comprehensive introduction to Biblical Hebrew language and texts. It presents the essentials of biblical grammar and vocabulary in an engaging and systematic way. Adjectives change their form depending on the gender and number of the noun that they modify. Disyllabic adjectives with a tone-long vowel in the first syllable undergo propretonic reduction when a fs, mp, or fp suffix is added. Just like nouns, some adjectives are geminates. Geminate adjectives consist of a monosyllabic closed syllable. Like nouns, adjectives of the active participle pattern undergo pretonic reduction when suffixes are added. Occasional adjectives undergo unexpected doubling and vowel changes when suffixes are added. Moreover, in the case of a small number of adjectives the fs form takes the suffix instead of the more common "-".
