ABSTRACT
The theory of the lexicon combines these two aspects: on the one hand, it describes generalisations about the basic elements, on the other hand, it studies the ways in which these elements interact and form larger word struc tures. The latter part of lexical theory has been called ’word grammar’ or ’word syntax’, which seems to be a good name for the enterprise.
