This chapter brings together the themes previously outlined in this book to

develop a methodology for conducting the process of self research. The

theoretical underpinnings from Chapter 1, along with that chapter’s stated

principles for theorising the self, are applied in a process of research that

reflects the elements of research as outlined in Chapter 4, where the discur-

sive production of the self through family, as outlined in Chapter 3, is

investigated. This is conducted within the disciplinary context of family

therapy as outlined in Chapter 2. It is in this chapter that the criteria,

according to which the practise of self research should be evaluated, are

outlined.
