ABSTRACT

We began this book by pointing out potential contradictions between trying to achieve high test results and include children of all abilities, between the crowded academic curriculum and due attention to creativity and fun, between expecting children to be well-disciplined and also able to think critically and independently, between having a strong corporate identity in a school and welcoming newcomers and visitors, while respecting difference and diversity. Through the book we have described the ways we try to resolve these tensions and do justice to all these aims.
