ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book presents findings from the From Boys to Men project in the hope of conveying a more complex and differentiated account of the ways in which domestic abuse features in young men's lives than can otherwise be found in the academic and policy literatures. It begins by documenting survey data that showed that over half of 13-14-year-olds in people's sample had some direct experience of domestic abuse, whether as victims, witnesses, or perpetrators. The book explains offers encouragement to academic researchers in this field to think again about the relationship between findings and their representation in the media, and especially the connections between the personal and the political. It argues that it is time to develop a more nuanced understanding of how and why it is that some young men become perpetrators of domestic violence.
