ABSTRACT

An important part in the convergence of lighting and video is the evolution of DMX controlled projectors. With the increasing use of media servers on productions, many designers not only want to control a production's video content from lighting desk, they want to have control over how and where that image is being projected. Lighting designers who find themselves in the role of visual director for a show will oversee all visual elements of production ranging from scenic to video to lighting. In some cases, a high output projector that is fixed onto a static location may be all that is required for the production. However, a digital moving light can be easily controlled from a DMX lighting console and using one gives the designer the freedom to focus the projector onto various surfaces in multiple locations while simplifying the creation process. Digital lighting luminaires have a wide range of features, and their ideal applications are varied as a result.
