ABSTRACT

Gyroscopic instruments provide the pilot with additional displays and information needed for the basic operation of an aircraft, including attitude and direction. This chapter describes the various instruments used to achieve these displays, together with the additional data that can be derived. Before delving into the various gyroscopic instruments and systems, some generic principles of gyroscopes are given. The type and quantity of gyroscopic instruments and systems installed on an aircraft depends on a number of factors, ranging from aircraft size, type of operation, regulatory requirements and so on.
