ABSTRACT

Many times security becomes a matter of concern only after a theft has taken place. It is then that directors wish the hands of the clock could be moved backward so that security precautions could have been observed earlier. Vigilance may well be the keynote of security considerations at West Point. Egon A. Weiss views security as part of his overall responsibility, and he has imbued his staff with the necessary attitude toward security. It is not unusual for him to check doors which should be locked as he goes about the building. A policy exists whereby the janitorial staff will call Weiss at his home if a problem arises. The degree to which the staff involves itself in maintaining security is truly remarkable. The hallmark of the security program is that schedules are changed, as are methods of operation.
