      ABSTRACT

SUMMARY. Stroke patients usually {>resent with three primary motor deficits: (1) abnormal tone, (2) paresis, and (3) loss of selective motor control. In this review I pose questions about the interrelationship of these deficits and discuss current literature on their neurophysiological bases. In addition, methods for measuring the deficits are presented and, finally, an evaluation process is outlined which will help us to understand more clearly how the deficits are related to abnormal motor control.
