ABSTRACT
In twenty years, we will have degree-granting programs in lesbian and gay studies, but there are no guarantees that they will be headed by people whose work incorporates an awareness of race. Lesbians and gays of color and their allies need constant vigilance, networking, and organizing to ensure that lesbian and gay studies will be a site for what it purports to do: study lesbians and gays (not just white, middle-class lesbians and gays).
