ABSTRACT

Adopting change as a way of managing practice will give one's business a significant lead on the competition. This chapter develops a strategy for the practice to enhance one's medical group's market position through integration. Integration of physicians, hospitals, and health plans has been increasing, with significant frequency. The chapter specifies services toward customers' needs and achieves the highest levels of consumer satisfaction with each of the major health care organizations in one's catchment area. Change in health care presents opportunity to the medical group that is prepared to expand member/patient-centered service. Contemporary medical practice warrants contemporary leadership by physicians and positioning of the medical group. Although specialists are more affected than primary care providers, it is clear that for much of the United States, there is an excess of physicians.
