ABSTRACT
Racism, ageism, unsafe sex—all of these seem to work against the gay male communities. Their representations in porn videos reflect the shortcomings, the flaws within the culture. Porn videos are manifestations of gay male popular memory. They document many aspects of our condition and rewrite the history from which we have been excluded. Gay Men’s Health Crisis has produced two gay male hardcore safe sex short videos: Midnight Snack and Law and Order. The gay movement has splintered into many different factions, one of the most volatile and visible being those who identify with the word “Queer” as opposed to “gay.” Queers have not been readily embraced by the gay porn industry. Political content in porn films may necessarily be the next wave in the industry—especially if that is what is needed to combat the various misdirected interpretations of obscenity laws and the abuses of the free-speech Amendment.
