In a library periodical, a librarian discussed his frustration with "stupid questions" (Plaiss, 1985). Judging from the mail response, readers weren't sure whether the article was intended as humor or as a comment from a somewhat burned-out librarian. In either case, those of us who work at a reference desk, particularly a busy one, probably saw at least a small measure of our own reality in the author's comments.
