ABSTRACT

“Cyber” is the Greek word for helmsman or guide. Cyberlore came down on us like a bolt from the blue. In cyberspace, things change in a moment, in the wink of an eye. The word has expanded like the computers that are its trademark—into our offices, factories, homes, economy, and mythology. Computer people are developing a language of their own, unlike any of the human languages. No one can deny that technology has done incredible things for us, in this era of silicon chips, space walks, AWACS, medical miracles, and virtual reality. Technopoly suggests that the unexamined technology is not worth having. The only recourse was to send out thousands of technicians nationwide who would physically reposition satellite dishes to a different part of the sky where a backup satellite was orbiting. Thousands of cable TV systems and television stations had nothing to broadcast.
