ABSTRACT

The author thinks dating is terrifying for most human beings: gay, straight, female, male. It feels as if they're really putting on the line to date especially when they contemplate initiating a date. Their urgency is also driven by evolutionary makeup. They are, after all, designed to fall in love, have sex, and reproduce. Once they are attracted to a person, they are under the influence of very powerful sexual chemicals. As lesbians, dating offers some unique challenges. As someone the author knows said recently, "There are no social rules for lesbian dating like there are for other social activities, like asking a friend for dinner. As a result, the friend probably doesn't know that she's being asked out on a date. Lesbians have another big problem internal homophobia. Many lesbians are too un-comfortable with their sexuality to spend much time dating or to be very direct in their dating.
