ABSTRACT

The different sources of environmental design can provide guidance and insight into the design of environments for game-based learning. The game environment is the culmination of the artwork, along with the space design, narrative design and mechanics. Research into educational virtual reality and virtual worlds provides insight into interaction and engagement. Former Disney designer Don Carson provides much insight into the elements that foster unique 'experiences' for visitors at Disneyland. The game environment is the culmination of the artwork, along with the space design, narrative design and mechanics. The lobby of many museums often sets the stage for the exhibition and provides the initial layer of theme. The application of architectural and environmental design provides great insight into way finding and navigation strategies for virtual space design, and graphic design and game art provide insight into how colour, shape and texture impact participants.
