ABSTRACT

The following short story was written by Harishankar Parsai (1924–95) who is best known for his satirical and humorous writing. Parsai produced a vast body of work, including short stories and novels. He was a winner of the Sahitya Akademi Award, a prestigious literary honour. In many of his works Parsai captures social and political realities faced by the middle classes, and often raises poignant questions about society. Readers of his works find that many of the issues that he has raised in the past remain relevant to contemporary society.
