Coney Island Avenue: Multicultural Brooklyn book
Coney Island Avenue runs south from Prospect Park to Brighton Beach in Brooklyn. It borders Community Districts (CD) 12 and 14 and runs through the middle of 15 (and terminates a few blocks into CD 13). According to Toktamis (2007), who analyzed U.S. Census 2000 data for the Center for the Study of Brooklyn, a majority of the residents in the tracts along Coney Island Avenue were born outside of the U.S., and almost two-thirds of the residents do not speak English at home. Among the distinct neighborhoods along the four-mile commercial street are Caribbean, Hispanic, South Asian, Orthodox Jewish, Russian, and Chinese.
