ABSTRACT

Some of the greatest grassroots movements in our country's history have been started by people who never intended to enter the realm of politics and political lobbying, but found themselves faced with tragedies or injustices that the government was not addressing, or worse, that the government was exacerbating. From the Underground Railroad to Mothers Against Drunk Driving, our history is decorated with regular folks who became leaders simply because they did what they felt they had to do when nobody else seemed willing to stand up to the problem.
