ABSTRACT
Nanita Santos continued to play a role in the life of young Jose. In his mind, she was as much a part of his extended family as any blood relative could be. Though she lived an exceedingly long life, her death was not a natural one, and were his story a novel, her death could serve very well as foreshadowing for the story of José's first great love some years later.
