ABSTRACT

In a literature survey Conny Hoogeveen evaluated some forestry and forest conservation models on their usefulness for a global tropical forest simulation project. In an ecological model attention is mainly focused on the forest as an ecosystem. Economic forestry and forest conservation models are typically developed from the point of view of the economics of natural resources. Economic models dealing with the forest could be classified as forestry and forest conservation models. Forestry models are focused on the optimal exploitation of a forest from the point of view of individual forest manager. The major part of the forest conservation models - economic models developed for the conservation of one or more forest areas - are specified at the national or sub-national level. TROPFORM, the only model that can be used for policy analysis on a global scale, models several factors determining land use and leading to deforestation.
