Global integration, the increasing exploitation of resources, and growing environmental problems have highlighted the dependence of the global community on functioning ecosystems and ecological services. 145 Economics and trade must therefore be viewed from a holistic perspective which clarifies the link between nature's life support systems and economic activity.
