ABSTRACT

Serena grew up as a rather uninhibited baby. She had the model of her mother in mind, Delia, but she was not there to demonstrate it or to protect her from social blame. Even though, conventionally, childrearing was supposed to totally absorb a woman's life energy, for serena, her baby's birth was an incentive to desire and do more-study, work, find her own centeredness, give her life a meaning of its own. A mother's abjection had been natural for the women in your father's family, and since she did not have it, a baby's other grandmother and her sisters gradually stepped in. In the summer months the family spent in Bosa, they took a fair share of responsibility in the child-rearing process, and they also took a large portion of your trust and affection.
