ABSTRACT

After 1960 the classical COM continued to attract some management writers' attention but came under increasing criticism. The structural model was consolidated and revised to a degree, and the behavioural COM expanded through revision and addition of component control concepts, During this period, the sytems approach to control also emerged. The developmental progress of these structural, behavioural and systems models of control will be examined within the context of the schools of thought from which they arose and set against the background of their socio-economic environment.
