ABSTRACT
Many of the theorists cited in this article were teachers in these institutions. It was only in 1975 that a master’s programme in the science and techniques of accounting and finance, leading to a degree in public accounting, was created and offered at a small number of French universities. Thus official university recog nition of accounting as an academic discipline came very late in France, which could explain the belated arrival of theoretical writing and research in the field.
