ABSTRACT

Ulysses Grant, 1822–1885, was the eighteenth president of the United States. He was known as the general who defeated Robert E. Lee and ended the Civil War. Ulysses’ father, Jesse, was known for being loud, boisterous, and a braggart. In contrast, Ulysses was a quiet, reserved, non-expressive son; who detested his father’s tannery business as well as his endless bragging and parental doting.
