ABSTRACT

How do we human beings develop? How do we mature? Do we mature from within, according to an internalized timetable? This is what Sigmund Freud believed with his emphasis on the id, the ego, and the superego, with stages demarked as oral, anal, latent, and genital. Or, do we mature according to timetables closely tuned to whatever social order we live in modified by local customs, traditions, laws, and taboos? How closely is development linked to learning? What goes on in the brain when we learn something new? How are connections made in our brain that alter our perspectives on life?
