ABSTRACT

John Adams, second President of the United States, served two terms as Vice President under George Washington. He was born on October 30, 1735 and died on July 4, 1826. He was a diplomat, statesman, and noted politician. Adams had two daughters and three sons, the most well known being John Quincy Adams. His other two sons, Charles and Thomas, did not fare as well as their older brother. This is an account of father distance and father absence, in addition to parental over-involvement and preoccupation with the eldest son—a phenomenon that often creates dissension and alienation amongst the younger sons.
