Psychometric studies of personality book
Most of the work in the psychometrics of personality is frankly empirical. Thus its aim has been to uncover the dimensions accounting for the largest amounts of personality variance. The relevance to Freudian theory lies in the answer to this question. Are the personality dimensions uncovered by the objective statistical procedure of factor-analysis the same as the psychoanalytic personality dimensions? Or do they resemble them to any degree? Obviously, if they do, then this is sound support for psychoanalytic theory, albeit one not intended by the researcher.
