ABSTRACT
This book is an investigation and critique of ways of thinking that not only guided some of my personal political choices but also those of at least three generations of my family. Thus, it seems appropriate that I introduce my work by familiarizing the reader with the biographical context that led me to explore the historical basis and development of thinking about security in Brazil from 1930 to 2010.
