ABSTRACT

Baseball is considered the great American pastime. By the turn of the 20th century, baseball had positioned itself as a part of the American identity and as a repository of “national values” (Iber et al. 2011: 78). It is called “America's game” and considered as “American as apple pie.” Embedded within the history of baseball is a complex story of race and race relations. Jackie Robinson is synonymous with the integration of baseball, but Hispanic and Native American players actually entered baseball long before Blacks.
