ABSTRACT
This introduction presents a overview of the keyconcepts discussesd in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book explores people an understanding of how the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD), otherwise known as Rio+20, was conceived and developed, during one of the most difficult financial crises the world has seen. It also reviews the present changes in global governance and some that still need to be developed. The book gives some ideas concerning a positive road map to the future. Through these challenging times the world needs a strong, robust and nimble United Nations, which we continue to believe has the credibility and capacity to be a force for global good and sustainability. It also takes people on the journey to and from Rio+20 but it is up to all of us, working together, to make the leap into a more sustainable future. The book reviews how Brazil and key other players slowly built a narrative for the rebuilding of sustainable development.
