ABSTRACT
After a short leave of fifteen days the first graduating class from Fort Des Moines was assigned to the 92nd Division, the “Colored Division.” Since they had been instructed only in the basic skills of infantry, the officers assigned to specialty units were ill prepared. Among the specialty units in the 92nd were a field artillery brigade, an engineer regiment, and a field signal battalion.
