ABSTRACT

The risks involved in this endeavor prompt many to rely upon software packages like Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP). Vendors of ERP systems claim that their products are tried and tested, building upon a wealth of experience that enables them to provide a state-of-the-art solution for specific industry sectors or company size (Klaus, Rosemann, & Gable, 2000). The capacity of ERP systems to integrate organizational business processes and share information across functional areas through a common database has prompted commentators to declare that they are a prerequisite for success in the 21st century (Davenport, 2000). This has fuelled sales of ERP making it arguably the most popular business software of the last fifteen years (Robey, Ross, & Boudreau, 2002).
