ABSTRACT
Hearing impairment is the most common physical disability in the West and one of the most significant public health burdens. About one in six adults in the United States report having a hearing loss. This is expected to rise to about one in five over the next two decades as the average age of the population increases, since hearing impairment is highly prevalent in the elderly.
