ABSTRACT
This chapter examines the migration corresponding with a timeline from 1600 onward, as colonial Europe expanded. It explores the pattern of migration during the modern era of large-scale industrialization, and deals with an examination of patterns of migration during the current age of postindustrial globalization. The chapter discusses the larger geographic patterns of migration over the past few centuries. It describes the continued transatlantic migration of Europeans to the Americas. The chapter analyzes the migration to the United States increased again with changes in public policy and the global economy. It deals with the continuation of migration to the classical migration countries of the United States and Australia. The chapter talks about the rise of migration from different parts of the world to European countries. Some key themes shaped global migration: Europe's early colonial expansion; industrialization expansion; and globalization. Patterns of global migration have been shaped by a convergence of many societal changes in the world.
