ABSTRACT

This book is about managing people, and in particular about how you as a front-line manager can manage those who work for you most effectively. We have already discussed in Chapter 1 how important this role is and the pressures you are likely to experience. To be effective in this role you will need to behave in ways which encourage your staff to want to work for you and for the organisation you represent. This means carrying out the many and varied people management tasks you have already read about and also behaving towards your staff in ways which leave them feeling positive about you and about the organisation, even when circumstances are difficult or when you have to challenge difficult behaviour, for example.
