ABSTRACT

This chapter will provide an outline of a whole-school attendance strategy at the primary level. It will include a rationale for the policy and some draft forms for schools/head teachers/local authorities (LAs) to use and apply on a practical basis. This all-embracing and practical policy is based on Roundhead School, a fictional establishment located somewhere in the UK. For those of you who would like to compare and contrast the suggested outline of this whole-school attendance policy document, an alternative strategy may be found in Managing School Attendance: Successful Intervention Strategies for Managing Truancy (Reid, 2013: esp. Ch. 9). This is based on the actual practice of Bryn Bach Primary School in Tredegar, South Wales.
