ABSTRACT
Juries are used in criminal cases in the Crown Court where the defendant pleads not guilty. It is only in exceptional cases where a jury has been ‘nobbled’ in an earlier trial that there can be a trial by judge alone in the Crown Court ( R v Twomey and others (2009), KS v R (2010)).
