ABSTRACT

Corps history After the opening of the first British custom-designed army hospital in 1856 it was decided in 1866 that civilian nurses could be used in such institutions, and in 1881 such nurses came under the control of the Army Nursing Service. In 1902 this was revised to become Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing Service, and from 1907 supplemented by the Territorial Army Nursing SeIVice. In 1949 the two branches were united as Queen Alexandra's Royal Army Nursing Corps.
