ABSTRACT

This chapter explains the research and links it to the various school-level factors that educational leaders can influence. It provides a brief review of the scholarly literature pertaining to holistic health and literacy leadership. The chapter demonstrates how health and holistic literacy is analyzed through the use of case studies. It offers a series of reflective discussion questions to help decipher how holistic health literacy is practiced on a daily basis for educational leaders. While there may be increasing emphasis on the moral dimension of leadership in education, less sustained attention has been given to other non-traditional dimensions that characterize holistic health literacy and leadership. Discussions of holistic leadership vary in terms of which aspects of humanity appear to warrant our focus and sustained attention. Despite the differing definitions and terminology embedded in discussions of holistic leadership, there is growing consensus that leadership is more than an activity of the mind.
