Traditionally Meccan, but perhaps Medinan. The reason for the bitter attack on Muḥammad's uncle, Abū-Lahab, is that he became chief of the clan of Hāshim about 619 and found a justification for refusing to continue clan-protection to Muḥammad. This precipitated the Hijra.
