ABSTRACT
Most of this sura belongs to the second and third years of the Hijra, much of it being connected with events surrounding the battle of Uḥud in March 625 (x. 3 A.H.). An account of the battle will be found in Medina, 21–9, Prophet, 135–44. The earlier part contains material relevant to the dispute with the Jews.
