ABSTRACT
An accurate reconstruction of the past immediately calls for a critical examination of the historical and textual reliability of the sources. While the historical reliability can be established with relative ease by examining the chronological proximity of the text to its subject matter, the authenticity of its content is considerably more problematic. There is always the possibility that the facts may have been distorted by later sectarian interests.
